Dr. Alain Vadeboncoeur, Co-founder, Course Director, Co-Scientific Director (all courses), ECGU Instructor
Specialist in emergency medicine, he is an active member of the Department of Medicine at the Montreal Heart Institute, where he founded the emergency team in 1999 and served as its director from 1999 to 2021. He currently oversees research in the ED. He is also a Full Clinical Professor at the University of Montreal within the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. An expert in emergency medicine, he has authored numerous scientific publications, book chapters, manuals, communications, popular science articles, and conference presentations. In 2023, he received the Award for Excellence in Continuing Professional Development from the FMSQ, and in 2024, he was honored with the awards for Excellence in Outreach from the College of Physicians of Quebec and Excellence from the Quebec Association of Emergency Physicians Specialists.
Dr. Dominic Larose, Co-founder, Co-Scientific Director (all courses), ECGU Instructor
A graduate of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC-EM) and the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), he has been practicing medicine since 1981, specializing in emergency medicine. He is a former chief of the emergency department at CUSE Fleurimont and an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke. He has served as a medical expert for the Quebec Coroner’s Office and conducted professional liability assessments for various law firms. He has authored and reviewed health information materials for a public website. Since 2007, he has been an emergency physician at the Montreal Heart Institute, chaired its ECMO committee, and is a member of the INESS ECMO committee.
Dr. David Paré, Co-Scientific Director (all courses), ECGU Instructor
An emergency medicine specialist at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, a member of the TopMu team, and an international collaborator, he joined the ECGU team in January 2018 to develop the ECGU 3 course and contribute to the improvement of courses 1 and 2. He has been a co-director of the ECGU courses since 2018. He practices at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute (IUCPQ). His interest in knowledge transfer has led him to oversee the French translation of “Sketchy EBM” modules and collaborate on TopMu’s educational activities. Beyond his strong passion for teaching, his interests include acute cardiac care and wilderness medicine.
Dr. Fred Picotte, Co-Scientific Director (MF1 and MF2), ECGU Instructor
A family physician, he has been practicing in the Shawinigan emergency department since 2010. As the director of the Shawinigan Family Medicine Unit (CUMF), he is involved in the medical training of clerks and residents. His focus on evidence-based medicine inspired him to create the “Docs d’urgence” website in 2015 to facilitate the dissemination of practice-changing studies. He is also a member of TopMu and one of the creators of the Top Tips section.
Dr. Julie Sirois, Co-Scientific Director (EPL), ECGU Instructor
She completed her medical training at the University of Montreal, followed by a residency in family medicine and a fellowship in emergency medicine at the University of Sherbrooke. She also completed a graduate-level microprogram in international health. Since 2019, she has held a fellowship (ULA) in point-of-care ultrasound in emergency medicine. She joined the Montreal Heart Institute’s emergency team in 2015 and has served as the chief of the emergency medicine department since 2021. She regularly teaches ACLS as a master instructor. She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Montreal and is passionate about teaching.
Dr. Hétoum Misirliyan, ECGU Instructor, received his medical degree from the Université de Montréal and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He then completed the Enhanced Competency Program in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM) at the same institution. He further honed his skills with a one-year fellowship in acute care point-of-care ultrasound (DRCPSC) at The Ottawa Hospital. Since 2020, he has served as an attending physician at The Montfort Hospital. Since 2022, Dr. Misirliyan has been a staff physician at the Montreal Heart Institute. He has been the scientific director of the Echoguided Life Support (EGLS) course since 2021 and is actively involved in numerous point-of-care ultrasound courses across Canada. Additionally, he holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and Clinical Teacher at the Université de Montréal.
